There are almost eight miles of canals and over 900 stormwater inlets in the City of Riviera Beach, maintained by the The Stormwater Management Utility (SMU) Division, which maintains the stormwater systems within the City.

  

Functional responsibilities:

• Mowing of drainage ditches and swales
  
• Providing maintenance of retention ponds
  
• Sweeping of over 80 miles of city streets each month
  
• Cleaning of inlets and storm drain pipes
  
• Spraying herbicides within the stormwater system
  
• Infrastructure improvements to the stormwater system
  
• Overseeing  the inspection and reporting requirements under the federally mandated National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
