5/17/2019 - 2019 Click It or Ticket Campaign that is occurring from May 20th, 2019 until June 2nd, 2019.

The Click It or Ticket (CIOT) campaign is a high-visibility enforcement effort designed to detect violators of Florida’s traffic laws with special emphasis on occupant protection. An intense paid media campaign is conducted concurrently with high-visibility enforcement to elevate the importance of the benefits of safety belt use, including issuance of citations for safety belt violations.

CIOT isn’t about the citations; it’s about saving lives. In 2015 alone, seat belts saved an estimated 13,941 lives—and may have saved an additional 2,814 people if they had been wearing their safety belts.

The State Safety Office supports the high visibility enforcement activities of state and local law enforcement agencies, which address safety belt use and child restraint laws during both day and nighttime hours with an emphasis on Florida’s high-risk populations. Support for state and local law enforcement participation in the national CIOT mobilization efforts is also a priority and contributes to Florida’s improving
safety belt use rate.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been working with the states to conduct the national Click It or Ticket (CIOT) mobilization since 2003. Evaluations conducted over these years suggest that CIOT has helped increase awareness and safety belt usage through enhanced enforcement, far-reaching paid media messages, and localized media efforts. The national campaigns typically last several weeks and begin with media generated at the national, state, and local levels. Paid media follow a week or so later, followed by high-visibility enforcement lasting for two weeks.

The CIOT law enforcement mobilization is a proven and, effective way to save lives across the United States. Something powerful happens when law enforcement nationwide joins together to crack down on tough highway safety issues: we save lives. And those lives aren’t just numbers on a spreadsheet. They aren’t just statistics. They are someone’s mother, brother, child, or grandparent.
NHTSA's PEAK Enforcement Kit provides resources to make local law enforcement campaigns a success.
