6/2/2023 - David Barnes Pleads Guilty to Attempted First Degree Murder
RIVIERA BEACH, FL. (June 2, 2023) – On August 29, 2022, Riviera Beach Police Officers responded to 2500 North Ocean Avenue, in reference to a stabbing. The victim sustained two stab wounds to vital locations on his body. The victim was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he underwent surgery. Through a cooperative effort between the Criminal Investigations Division, Officer J. Jones, and the Alpha-2 shift; the suspect was identified as David Barnes. Probable cause was established and a warrant was walked through for David Barnes’ arrest. The arrest warrant was turned over to and adopted by Agent Poteat of the U.S Marshalls taskforce. On June 1, 2023, Barnes pled guilty to the charge of attempted first-degree murder with a deadly weapon and was sentenced to 15 years in state prison.
