11/1/2022 - Grand opening the new substation

RIVIERA BEACH, FL. (Nov. 1, 2022) – Riviera Beach Police are inviting the public to celebrate the grand opening of its substation nestled in the heart of the Monroe Heights neighborhood, where it symbolizes the Department’s commitment to the community and the importance of officers immersing themselves within different areas of the City. The grand opening, which will include tours of the substation, a ribbon cutting, flag raising performance by the Riviera Beach Police Honor Guard Unit, comments by Police and City officials and refreshments, is Nov. 10 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the substation’s location inside the Lindsey Davis Community Center, 1550 W. 28th Street. Seven officers from the Community Oriented Police (COP) Unit, the Police Athletic League (PAL) Program Coordinator and the Department’s Homeless Outreach Coordinator are assigned to the substation, which includes brand new furnishing and technology. The newly opened substation creates a vitally important presence in the community where it is located, gives a greater sense of security to the neighborhood and seniors visiting the Lindsey Davis Center and provides an opportunity for positive engagement between officers and citizens in the area. “The main purpose of the substation is to provide a visible presence within the community and to support the Police Department’s Community Policing efforts,” Major Spencer L. Rozier said. “This will be accomplished by assigning several units within the substation, hosting training and events, conducting occasional Patrol briefings at the substation and meeting with citizens and community groups there.” Relocating the Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) from the Lindsey Davis Community Center to the Riviera Beach Public Library provided a perfect opportunity for the Police Department to open a substation in the building vacated by YEP. Members of the public could come to the substation to seek assistance if needed. If personnel are onsite at the time, officers will provide or direct them to the assistance that is requested. In addition to the Police substation at Lindsey Davis, where many of the community’s seniors gather for programs and events, police personnel are also located at the Port Center, 2051 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., and at 600 W. Blue Heron Blvd. The Department remains committed to serving and protecting the community and is open to establishing additional substations in the future.
