12/8/2021 - Riviera Beach Makes Academic History With GED Class
RIVIERA BEACH, FL. (Dec. 8, 2021) – The City is making academic history with its largest GED class set to mark the momentous occasion on Dec. 10 during a signing ceremony.

Twenty-one students studying for their high school diploma at the Riviera Beach Public Library Emerging Community Center as part of a free program sponsored by the City and Palm Beach County Adult and Community Education — an arm of the Palm Beach County School District — will choose their trade of choice during a signing event on Dec. 10.

The students, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Riviera Beach Riviera Beach Public Library Emerging Community Center, 2129 N Congress Ave., will be joined by City Manager Jonathan Evans and Fred Barch, the Director of Adult Education for the School District, who will sign each students’ Certificate of Signage. During the signing ceremony, Mr. Evans, Mr. Barch and the Class President will speak. Refreshments will be served.

“Students will be given a business suit in preparation of their first interview and given a Certificate of Signage,” said Valerie Grimsley, Director of the Emerging Community Center/Youth Empowerment Programs. “This day will be a celebration for these students that could have a negative path, but have chosen to not give up and press forward into success.”

Upon completion of taking the GED test, students will receive a high school diploma. The course runs from November to May with graduation in June. The free program has been in existence for four years.
