Judy L. Davis represents District 2 on the Riviera Beach City Council, and is currently serving a 3rd term. She previously served on the Council from 2004 through 2006, and was re-elected in March 2008. Her colleagues voted her Vice Chair (Chair Pro-Tem) in April 2009 and 2010, and as Chair in April 2011. Her term ends in March 2012.
The native Floridian believes in service. Like her two older brothers, Councilwoman Davis served her country in the military — they were Army, she was Navy — and worked as an E-4 Radio Communication Specialist, with a top secret clearance.
While still serving in the Navy, Councilwoman Davis enrolled part-time at Florida Junior College in Jacksonville. After being honorably discharged, Councilwoman Davis moved back home to Blountstown, Florida, and continued her studies at Chipola Junior College, graduating in 1978 with an Associate's degree in accounting.
In 1982, Councilwoman Davis moved to West Palm Beach and began her 32 years-long career with the Palm Beach County School District, from which she retired in 2010.
Councilwoman Davis became a homeowner in Riviera Beach in 1990, and helped to organize the a neighborhood group, and a street beautification program. She was instrumental in securing almost $300,000 in county funds to beautify the neighborhood. Her current volunteer efforts include beautifying the homes of residents who are senior citizens or low-income residents. She was the guiding force for also establishing a partnership with the Riviera Beach Maritime Academy in forming Riviera Beach YouthBuild.
Councilwoman Davis is the City’s representative on the Metropolitan Planning Organization, and alternate representative on the Palm Beach County League of Cities and National League of Cities, and National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials. She is also a member of the Park Manor Neighborhood Association and Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church.
Councilwoman Davis is divorced, and has a daughter, Sandra; brother, Perry; sisters Carolyn, Laura and Barbara.
